Karlin Weisinger (She/They) is a student at University of Nevada, Reno where she studies Music Education and serves as President of the Alpha Alpha Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi, National Honorary Band Fraternity. Over the course of her six years in Drum Corps International, she marched trumpet with DCI 2017 Open Class Champion, Vanguard Cadets, and had the honor of serving as Drum Major for Golden Empire from 2019-2021 (Head Drum Major 2020-2021) and aging out as Head Drum Major for DCI 2022 Open Class Silver Medalist, Gold. Outside of Drum Corps, they have marched clarinet, trumpet, mellophone, flag, and bass drum across several different high school and college ensembles. Prior to transferring, she served as Horn Sergeant for the San Jose State University Spartan Marching Band and upon transferring she served as Clarinet Section Leader for the University of Nevada, Reno Wolf Pack Marching Band. They have taught drum majors, visual, woodwind, brass, colorguard, and bass drums across several different high schools, including Gilroy High School (Gilroy, CA), Christopher High School (Gilroy, CA), Wilcox High School (Santa Clara, CA), and The King’s Academy (Sunnyvale, CA). Karlin currently performs at University of Nevada, Reno with the Howlers pep band (mellophone) and Chamber Singers (soprano) and is preparing for her Senior Voice Recital in April. Karlin is dedicated to inclusivity and accessibility in the marching arts, spending much of her free time helping others brainstorm personal fundraising ideas for ensemble fees and coordinate logistics such as travel arrangements in order to participate in independent groups. She also speaks with and advocates for members of gender minority groups about how their ensembles can best meet their unique needs. Karlin looks forward to utilizing her varied experience and the DMLA platform to help students develop into well rounded, empathetic leaders who serve all members of their ensemble.
